HC Deb 08 February 1965 vol 706 c10
3. Sir R. Russell

asked the Minister of Health what are the prospects of his being able to establish a comprehensive sterile syringe service for general practitioners.

81. Sir W. Teeling

asked the Minister of Health why sterile disposable syringes for the collection of blood samples are available to general practitioners in some parts of the country but cannot be obtained from the Brighton and Lewes Hospital Management Committee for use in Brighton; and whether he will take steps to secure the reimbursement of practitioners who purchase them themselves.

Mr. K. Robinson

As I stated in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Willesden, East (Mr. Freeson) on 1st February, I propose to discuss with the profession arrangements for the provision of disposable sterile syringes free of charge to general practitioners in the National Health Service.

Sir R. Russell

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that his Answer will give great pleasure to the medical profession and will relieve it of a good deal of work in this connection?

Mr. Robinson

I am grateful to the hon. Member for what he says.
