HC Deb 20 December 1965 vol 722 c1672
32. Mr. Channon

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works what estimate he has made of the rise in the supply of building materials during the winter months.

Mr. Boyden

Plasterboard is the only major material with a long delivery date. Supplies of this material are being increased, and should meet demand by the spring of 1966.

Mr. Channon

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that he has not answered my Question? I asked what he estimated would be the rise in the supply of building materials during the winter months. Would he not agree that stocking of these materials above a certain amount is very uneconomical? Is it not worrying that stocks have reached their present level already?

Mr. Boyden

Plasterboard is the only main material which is in serious shortage difficulties, and that is what hon. Members opposite are usually asking about.

Mr. Costain

As the hon. Gentleman has already said that winter building nays, does he appreciate that stocking of bricks does not?

Mr. Boyden

Neither does the stocking of bricklayers.
