HC Deb 06 December 1965 vol 722 cc19-20
38. Mr. John Page

asked the Minister of Labour what is the increase in places available in Government training centres over the last three years; and whether there are at present more applications than there are vacant places.

Mr. Thornton

The places in G.T.Cs. have been increased by 3,155 since December 1962. There are more persons awaiting admission to training than there are vacant places in Government training centres.

Mr. Page

I thank the hon. Gentleman for that reply, but he has not said whether the waiting list is very substantial or not. I hope he will realise the very strong support which industry wishes to give to people who have been to these training centres, particularly as concerns Scotland.

Mr. Thornton

We shall certainly give the matter very close attention.
