HC Deb 06 December 1965 vol 722 cc6-7
12. Mr. Scott-Hopkins

asked the Minister of Labour what are the latest available figures of unemployed persons in the employment exchange areas of Camelford, Bude, Launceston, Wade-bridge, and Newquay; and what are their age groups.

Mr. Thornton

On 8th November, 132, 178, 83, 211 and 424 respectively. An age breakdown is not available for November. The latest analysis is for July. As this information consists of a table of figures I will, with permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. Scott-Hopkins

Would the Parliamentary Secretary bear in mind that most of the redundancies occur in the middle-age and younger-age groups, hence the urgent necessity to bring industry to these areas as quickly as possible? Is he aware that we are in great need in this part of Cornwall of additional industry so that the people generally, particularly those in these age groups, may be employed
