§ 23. Mr. Adam Hunterasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what further plans he has for increasing the supply of teachers.
§ 48. Sir M. Galpernasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what further steps he proposes to take to relieve the teacher shortage.
§ Mr. RossI hope to be able to make a statement shortly on measures to increase the supply of teachers. As my hon. Friends know, I am intensifying recruitment campaigns at present.
§ Mr. HunterIs my right hon. Friend aware that the shortage of teachers is becoming further aggravated by the fact that uncertificated teachers who are not likely to benefit from courses of training to qualify them as teachers are leaving now instead of waiting until the time when they are not wanted?
§ Mr. RossI am aware of the difficulties and the extent to which they are aggravated by shortages caused in this way, although it is no great loss when one loses a teacher who is not fit to teach at all.
