HC Deb 24 November 1964 vol 702 c1082
Q3. Mr. Ridley

asked the Prime Minister if he will publish the report of the Minister of Labour into the political motivation of strikes at election times.

The Prime Minister

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour is examining the facts in his Department. When this information is available a decision will be taken as to what further action, if any, is required.

Mr. Ridley

Is the Prime Minister aware that it is not only for him to satisfy himself about this matter but that the public have a right to be satisfied, too, that his allegation was wrong, if that is the case? Does he remember that in the case of the Bank Rate tribunal and the Vassall Inquiry, when he made similar allegations, tribunals were set up to prove that he was wrong? Will he give a similar assurance in this case?

The Prime Minister

I have always wondered what was the motive of the then Prime Minister in setting up that tribunal. I did not realise that it was set up to prove that I was wrong.

Mr. Chataway

Will the Prime Minister give one straight answer? Will he or will he not publish it?

The Prime Minister

I will make a statement in the House and then the House can form its own views.
