HC Deb 23 November 1964 vol 702 cc899-900
5. Dame Irene Ward

asked the Minister of Health what action he proposes to take to implement the recommendations of the aims for the improvement of the maternity services organisation, details of which have been sent to his Department by the hon. Member for Tynemouth.

Mr. Robinson

I would refer the hon. Lady to the letter I have sent her on this matter.

Dame Irene Ward

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that that is my complaint? It is true that he sent me a very long letter, but I do not want words; I want a little action. Will the right hon. Gentleman be kind enough to give a public commendation of the work done by the Association for Improvements in the Maternity Services so that it may be further stimulated to do more to get the local authorities and local services to accept its recommendations?

Mr. Robinson

I can assure the hon. Lady that I am as keen as she is, and as keen as this organisation is, to improve the maternity services. I sent her a long letter because there were a number of points in the memorandum which she sent me which I thought called for reply. My letter contained my answer to those specific points.
