§ 14. Sir R. Thompsonasked the Minister of Health what progress has been made in the provision of improved casualty facilities at the Croydon General Hospital; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. BraineThe regional board has now approved a scheme to provide an additional treatment cubicle, improvements to the waiting space and entrance, new partitions to the cubicles, complete redecoration of the department, and additional equipment.
§ Sir R. ThompsonWhile thanking my hon. Friend for that helpful reply, may I ask whether he can say anything about the staffing services for this hospital? Would he, in conjunction with the regional hospital board, provide for a rather more efficient service for casualties, particularly at weekends, than we have been able to have in the past?
§ Mr. BraineI cannot, without notice, say anything about the staffing position. I am told that the board is satisfied that major changes are not practicable; and that its intention is still to move the casualty department to the Mayday Hospital, elsewhere in Croydon. Perhaps I should say that the improvements I mentioned should be completed by September of this year.
