HC Deb 02 July 1964 vol 697 cc1518-9
4. Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proposals for improved education facilities have been made to him by the City of Stoke-on-Trent; what provision has been approved by him; to what extent the Newsom and Robbins Reports are to be implemented in the City; and by what dates this will be achieved.

Mr. Hogg

The authority has made plans for the introduction of comprehensive schools and the establishment of a junior college. Notices of the proposals under Section 13 of the Education Act, 1944, have been published and the statutory period for objection is now running. I cannot therefore make any further comment on this.

With regard to the second part of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to the speech of my right hon. Friend on 27th January.

Mr. Ellis Smith

Am I to take that Answer to mean that the Minister is going to co-operate with the local education authority to the maximum extent in order to get the best results?

Mr. Hogg

It means that I hope that I will co-operate with the local education authority and that the local education authority will co-operate with me to get the best results.
