§ 10. Sir C. Thornton-Kemsleyasked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will arrange for the issue of combat suits on a scale sufficient for the use of combat troops of the Territorial Army.
§ Mr. KirkAs I stated in the Army Estimates debate on 9th March, we are studying the question of the issue of combat dress to the Territorial Army. I am not yet able to make a statement.
§ Sir C. Thornton-KemsleyWould not my hon. Friend agree that the cost of this step would be offset to a large extent by the saving in the wear and tear of service dress, which is particularly heavy in, the case of Highland regiments wearing the kilt?
§ Mr. KirkThe cost is about ill million. Battle dress is, of course, the normal dress used by the T.A. for training and operations. I doubt if we would save all that much.
