HC Deb 25 June 1963 vol 679 cc1122-3
28. Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the President of the Board of Trade to what people, outside the Government service, the findings of his departmental committee on resale price maintenance have been made known.

Mr. Green

The results of this inquiry have been made known only to Ministers of the Crown and their Departments.

Mr. Gresham Cooke

Is my hon. Friend aware that a noble Lord from another place stated in a letter to The Times that informed opinion was well aware of the findings of this committee? Does not my hon. Friend rather deplore a statement such as that, since this departmental committee was, as he says, confined to members of his own staff?

Mr. Green

I do not think that it is for me to comment upon such reports. Perhaps my hon. Friend and the House would care to read my reply. The fact is that the results have been made known only to Ministers of the Crown and their Departments. Others may perhaps guess at them.

Mr. Jay

Can the hon. Gentleman tell us whether the Government propose now either to make known this report to the House or alternatively to make a statement on what Government policy is, or both?

Mr. Green

My right hon. Friend is now considering the Report. I think that it would be premature for me to answer that question on his behalf.
