HC Deb 17 July 1963 vol 681 c497
1. Mr. Bence

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the percentage of non-graduate and non-certificated teachers in the employment of the Dunbartonshire education authority.

The Under-Secretary of State for Scotland (Lady Tweedsmuir)

Non-graduate uncertificated teachers represented 5.6 per cent. of the total teaching staff in Dunbartonshire schools at October 1962.

Mr. Bence

Will the noble Lady take steps to find out the distribution of teachers in the county? Is she aware that at Dalmuir we have the extraordinary phenomenon of only one child out of a class of 48 qualifying at A-level? Is not this a disastrous result? I should like an inquiry made into the reason for such a bad result at this school.

Lady Tweedsmuir

We shall certainly take note of that school. The staffing is the responsibility of the education authority.
