§ 19. Mr. Callaghanasked the Minister of Education if he will authorise an increase in the Cardiff school-building programme for 1964–65 in order to ensure that a new county secondary school for Splott, Cardiff, is included.
§ Sir E. BoyleA project for a new seven form-entry secondary school, to replace the existing boys' and girls' schools at Splott, has been included in the 1964–65 major schools building programme, at a total estimated cost of £325,794. The authority was officially informed to this effect on 12th February.
§ Mr. CallaghanMay I thank the Minister for that reply, which will remove the great feelings of disappointment that have been felt in this area about the failure to do it much earlier?
§ Sir E. BoyleI am grateful to the hon. Gentleman for those remarks. I am told 622 that the authority has two sites in mind for the new school. It is proposed to put the buildings on one site and devote the other to playing fields. I hope that now that this has been approved by the Government it will be possible to proceed with planning with all speed.
§ Mr. G. ThomasI echo the satisfaction expressed by my hon. Friend the Member for Cardiff, South East (Mr. Callaghan) about Splott, but is the Minister aware of the bitter indignation in the Llandaff area of Cardiff at the fact that he has overlooked the need of the Llandaff Church School? Will he look again at the programme and see that a better deal is given there?
§ Sir E. BoylePerhaps the hon. Gentleman would table a Question about that school or write to me about it.
