§ 14, Mr. McKayasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to make illegal organisations that encourage racial hatred, particularly against Jews.
§ Mr. BrookeI would refer the hon. Member to the Answer I gave on Thursday last in reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Ilford, North (Mr. Iremonger).
§ Mr. McKayIs it not the case that there are still people who consider that not sufficient is being done? Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that Jews have suffered more than others from the evil of racial discrimination and that our people would consider it a credit to our nation if by legislation we made it illegal for organised groups to ventilate their grievances against a race of people whose history and work in the battle of life is to be admired?
§ Mr. BrookeI made a comprehensive statement on this subject a week ago in answer to a Question, a statement which appeared to me to command the general approval of both sides of the House and for which I have since been thanked by a number of members of the Jewish community. At present I have nothing to add to it.
