§ 8. Mr. Coulsonasked the Minister of Education how many part-time day release courses in social work are already in existence at colleges of advanced education; how many new part-time courses are to commence in the autumn of 1962; and at what centres they will be held.
§ Sir D. EcclesSeveral colleges run part-time courses intended for social workers, but no release courses of the type recommended in the Younghusband Report will be available at colleges of further education by the autumn of 1962. My right hon. Friend the Minister of Health and I think that it would be best to give the training council envisaged in the Bill now before Parliament an opportunity to consider what form they should take.
§ Mr. CoulsonI thank my right hon. Friend for that reply. Is he aware that part-time day release courses of this type are of great benefit to social workers, particularly those employed by local authorities? Would he give careful consideration to drawing the attention of the council to the great need for courses of this sort?
§ Sir D. EcclesI will certainly do that.
