§ 29. Sir A. Hurdasked the Minister of Transport if, in view of the bad accident record on the Bath Road A.4, west of Reading, and the representations made to him by the Berkshire County Council and local parish councils, he will now apply special road safety measures to this stretch of road.
§ Mr. HayWe have just received the further information we wanted from the county council about vehicle speeds on the section of A.4 between Reading and Theale. This should enable us to determine quite quickly whether the road is suitable for the use of off-set double white lines. We shall also be carrying out a number of minor improvements to A.4, including the provision of bus bays, the improvement of junctions and minor widenings.
§ Sir A. HurdIs my hon. Friend aware that I am glad to hear that? Will he take action, even of a temporary character, to ensure that fewer people are killed and maimed on these few miles of road?
