26. Mr. R. Carr

asked the President of the Board of Trade what progress has been made by the departmental committee inquiring into the question of monopolies and restrictive practices; when this inquiry is due to be completed; and how soon he expects to be able to make a statement of policy as a result of its findings.

Mr. Erroll

My Department are making good progress with the review of policy and legislation on these subjects. A number of statements have been received as a result of the invitation of 20th February, and these are being thoroughly studied. The review also includes mergers in all their aspects, and a study of practices in comparable trading countries.

I am watching closely the progress of this review, but I do not think it will be possible to complete it before the end of the year.
