HC Deb 19 July 1962 vol 663 c631
Q9. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Prime Minister, in view of the need for expediting the progress of housing in Scotland, if he will appoint a Minister who will have no other duties but planning a housing drive for Scotland.

The Prime Minister

No, Sir.

Mr. Hughes

Is the Prime Minister aware of the tremendous problem of housing which still faces Scotland? The City of Glasgow at present cannot hope to solve its housing problem for 20 years and even in enlightened counties like Ayrshire newly married couples have still to be on the waiting list seven years. Does he not think that a new drive should be organised?

The Prime Minister

Yes, Sir, but this is a question about whether a special Minister should be appointed, and I do not think that that is the right method.
