§ 40. Mr. V. Yatesasked the Minister of Health if he has considered the letter sent to him on 9th November by the hon. Member for Ladywood, concerning complaints made by Miss Edith O'Shaughnessy, a polio victim, of Lady-wood, Birmingham, of the dangerous and defective condition of invalid chairs issued to her; and if he will make an inquiry with a view to providing a more adequate and safer service to disabled persons.
§ Mr. BraineThe hon. Member will now have had my reply of 11th December to his letter.
§ Mr. YatesWhile I appreciate that the Minister has replied since I put down the Question, may I ask him whether he will go further into the matter and have a wider inquiry? Is he aware that the Infantile Paralysis Association in Birmingham has recently drawn attention to the question of an invalid who called for a chair which was supposed to have been repaired but which broke down four times? The case which I mentioned was of a lady in danger of an accident, and probably the accident which she had resulted from this situation. Will he satisfy himself that everything is being done to provide an adequate service?
§ Mr. BraineCertainly. Perhaps the hon. Member will give me particulars of the case which he has cited. In regard to the case to which the Question refers, I very much regret that there were delays, and the firm of repairers have been 882 reminded of their responsibilities to ensure that delays of this kind do not occur. We try to speed these matters up.
