§ 3. Mr. Snowasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the inconvenience caused to many workers re- 860 siding in Tamworth who work in the Birmingham area when hospital cases affecting their families are transferred to Burton-on-Trent; and what steps, pending the availability of more beds at the Good Hope Hospital, he proposes taking.
§ The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Health (Mr. Bernard Braine)I cannot identify the circumstances which the hon. Member has in mind.
§ Mr. SnowThat is the sort of reply I feared. Is the hon. Gentleman aware that it is a wholly unimaginative policy which forces workers who work in Birmingham but reside in Tamworth to have their family cases treated at Burton, bearing in mind the very unsatisfactory local transport arrangements? If he does not know anything about it, will he please look into it?
§ Mr. BraineNow the hon. Member has made the point clear. Apart from maternity cases, a patient from Tamworth who has a special link with Birmingham can generally be accommodated in a Birmingham hospital if he makes known his request.
§ 24. Mr. Snowasked the Minister of Health what are the total interest charges which have so far been incurred in connection with the Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield; and what is the capital cost so far of this hospital.
§ Mr. BraineNone, Sir; about £406,000.
