HC Deb 07 November 1961 vol 648 cc773-4
4. Mr. Snow

asked the Postmaster-General whether he will investigate the need for a sub-post office at Sankey's Corner, Burntwood, Staffordshire, in view of the increasing importance of this area and the fact that the two neighbouring sub-post offices are now inadequate simply by reason of their inconvenient position for this particular centre

Miss Pike

My right hon. Friend has looked into this matter carefully; but the provision of sub-post offices in the district is up to the standard in other similar districts and he is sorry that he would not be justified in opening an additional office.

Mr. Snow

Has that decision been reached in the light of the substantially increased number of houses in this area? What improved service has been offered by the hon. Lady's Department within the last six years?

Miss Pike

We have looked into this question very carefully. There are about 500 houses forming a housing estate. This is, in fact, nearer to Chase Town which is about three-quarters of a mile away, joined by ribbon development to Sankey's Comer. In our judgment, these people will be better served by the present arrangement. We shall keep the whole position under general review.

Mr. Snow

I hope so.
