HC Deb 21 March 1961 vol 637 cc196-7
31. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received from the Scottish Trades Union Congress requesting him to receive a deputation from it to discuss with him its concern about the new property valuations and about Government policy relating to housing and house rents in Scotland; and what reply he has sent.

The Joint Under-Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. T. G. D. Galbraith)

My right hon. Friend has not received any such representations.

Mr. Hughes

Does the Minister realise that the Scottish Trades Union Congress is handing him on a plate an opportunity to improve his knowledge of Scotland? Will he take the first available opportunity of discussing with that Congress Scotland's needs and desires, so that his policy may be more realistic in regard to them than it is at present?

Mr. Galbraith

If my right hon. Friend receives any communication from the Congress he will naturally consider it very carefully.
