HC Deb 07 March 1961 vol 636 cc242-3
27. Mr. Bence

asked the President of the Board of Trade what new industrial enterprises planned for Dunbartonshire will be in production by 1962; and what estimated increase in employment these are likely to produce.

Mr. N. Macpherson

Eight, including two expansions, to provide 1,952 jobs.

Mr. Bence

Does the hon. Gentleman realise that by 1962 this will be hopelessly inadequate if the new town at Cumbernauld expands at the rate expected by the Secretary of State for Scotland and if the overspill agreement with Kirkintilloch results in expansion there? Another 1,900 jobs by 1962 will not even catch up with the increased number of school leavers in that year.

Mr. Macpherson

It is some time till 1962, and we are hopeful that the inducements we offer will be taken up by industrialists in the meantime and will add new jobs.
