HC Deb 27 July 1961 vol 645 cc603-4
Q6. Mr. P. Noel-Baker

asked the Prime Minister what replies he has received from the Prime Ministers of the Commonwealth countries to his proposal that the declaration on disarmament, adopted at the recent Commonwealth Conference in London, should be circulated to members of the United Nations as a joint document sponsored by all the members of the Commonwealth.

The Prime Minister

I am still in consultation with my colleagues in the Commonwealth about this matter.

Mr. Noel-Baker

Since it is already many weeks since the Prime Minister said that consultations had begun, is there any special reason for the delay, as they all agreed on the declaration in London? Will it be circulated in time for the meeting of the United Nations Disarmament Commission in August?

The Prime Minister

As the Commonwealth grows these things become rather lengthy, but I am hopeful that we have almost reached the end of our inquiries.
