HC Deb 27 February 1961 vol 635 c1179
16. Mr. Millan

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance what representations he has had from Glasgow Corporation about the delay in the payment of increased old-age pensions; and what has been his reply.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

The Corporation of Glasgow wrote to me on this subject on 16th February a letter containing an allegation to this effect. They have been informed that I have noted their views.

Mr. Millan

Is the Minister aware that many of us are still getting a considerable number of representations about this matter? Is he aware of the intense feeling among old-age pensioners about the meanness of the Government in delaying these increases till the end of the winter?

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

On the contrary, I think that the great majority of retirement pensioners recognise that this is a big step forward and an increase in real standards.
