asked the President of the Board of Trade when the extension at Cummins Diesel Engine Company, Shotts, will commence.

We are awaiting confirmation from the company of its acceptance of the detailed plans for this extension Until this is received I am unable to say when work will start.

Miss Herbison

Has the hon. Gentleman any idea when this confirmation will be received, and can he give me a guarantee that immediately it is received work on this extension will begin?

With regard to the second point, I would hope that that would be so. With regard to the first point, confirmation is required, of course, by the American parent company.
