HC Deb 08 November 1960 vol 629 c810
19. Mr. Talbot

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what is the average time taken to determine an appeal against a planning decision or compulsory purchase order, such time being computed from date of the receipt of the appeal or order at his Department; and, in view of the increasing number of such appeals, what proposals he has for their expedition.

Mr. H. Brooke

The average time in the case of both planning appeals and compulsory purchase orders is about six months. I regard this as too long, and I am doing my utmost to reduce it, in particular by recruiting more inspectors to hold inquiries. But my task is the harder in that the number of planning appeals this year is running 25 per cent. above 1959.
