HC Deb 09 March 1960 vol 619 cc398-9
8. Viscount Hinchingbrooke

asked the Secretary of State for War what footpaths across the East Holme and East Lulworth War Department ranges, which were open until recently, have now been closed; and for what reason.

Mr. Soames

None, Sir. The emergency powers under which footpaths may be closed come to an end next December. But we shall still need the Lulworth ranges, and we are therefore seeking to replace our temporary powers by more permanent ones under the Requisitioned Land and War Works Act of 1945.

The two main roads through the range will still be opened when there is no firing; and the special arrangements for public access to Warbarrow Bay at holiday times will be continued. In effect, therefore, there will be no change where public access to the area is concerned.
