HC Deb 23 June 1960 vol 625 c769

Amendment made: In page 64, line 46, leave out "Board" and insert "Commission".—[Mr. Galbraith.]

Mr. Galbraith

I beg to move, in page 65, line 4, at the end to insert: and in the exercise of the powers conferred by this subsection it shall be the duty of a board of management to have regard to the sentimental value that any article may have for the patient, or would have but for his mental disorder". This Amendment requires the board of management, which proposes to dispose of any article belonging to a patient who is incapable of acting for himself, to have regard to the sentimental value which the article may have for the patient. The Amendment meets a point which was raised in Committee by the hon. Lady the Member for Lanarkshire, North (Miss Herbison) and her hon. Friend the Member for Central Ayrshire (Mr. Manuel). It is a small point, but it could be quite important.

Amendment agreed to.
