§ 40. Mr. Stonehouseasked the Prime Minister when he expects to receive the Report of the Monckton Commission.
§ The Prime Minister (Mr. Harold Macmillan)I am not yet in a position to say, but I understand that the Commission still has several weeks' work ahead of it.
§ Mr. StonehouseIs the Prime Minister aware that, last Monday evening, the Federal Prime Minister made a statement in which he indicated that Britain was in no way concerned with the use of Federal troops, thus contradicting the statement which the Prime Minister himself made in the House on that day——
§ Mr. SpeakerOrder. The Question and Answer related to when the Monckton Commission's Report will be received.
§ Mr. StonehouseArising from that, Mr. Speaker, may I ask the Prime Minister whether, while the Monckton Commission's Report is being awaited, he will convey to the Federal Administration that the powers of the Federal Constitution should in no way be exceeded?
§ The Prime MinisterI do not think that that question arises. The hon. Member asked me when I expected to receive the Report and I assumed that he had put the Question down in good faith because he wished to know. I am sorry that the work is heavy. I have consulted Lord Monckton and I hope that, some time towards the end of August, the Commission, which is working well together, will have finished its labours and the Report will be presented.
