HC Deb 12 July 1960 vol 626 cc1162-3
25. Mr. G. M. Thomson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what increase in capital expenditure for school building in Scotland is proposed for the financial year 1960–61 in fulfilment of the undertaking given in paragraph 21 of Command Paper No. 603, Education in Scotland—The Next Step.

Mr. Maclay

Investment in school building for 1960–61 will be increased by fully £1 million to £13.2 million, which is above the annual average required to fulfil the undertaking to which the hon. Member refers.

Mr. Thomson

I thank the Secretary of State for that Answer. On the general question of Government expenditure in Scotland would he undertake to make a statement before the House adjourns for the Summer Recess?

Mr. Maclay

I cannot do that. The matter is under examination and I cannot say when any statement will be possible.
