HC Deb 12 July 1960 vol 626 cc1148-9
5. The Earl of Dalkeith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will arrange for further publicity to be given to the availability of house improvement grants so as to accelerate the modernisation of houses in Scotland.

Mr. Maclay

Yes, Sir. In addition to the explanatory leaflets and posters which have been widely distributed, I am planning further publicity, for example by practical demonstrations of improvements of the kind recently staged at Paisley with the co-operation of the Town Council.

The Earl of Dalkeith

Does my right hon. Friend realise that the owners of many houses in Scotland which are occupied and let do not realise that these grants are available? Will he consider using television as a medium for advertising these grants?

Mr. Maclay

I will certainly consider any method of improving knowledge about the availability of these grants. We have already done a good deal to publicise them.
