HC Deb 12 July 1960 vol 626 cc1152-3
11. Mr. Willis

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland by how many acres the area planted by the Forestry Commission in 1959 in the Highland counties fell below the acreage announced for that year in the Review of Highlands Policy, Command Paper No. 785.

Mr. Maclay

I am glad to say that in 1959 the Commission planted in the Highlands about 350 acres more than the 10,000 mentioned in the White Paper.

Mr. Willis

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this is the first time during his term of office that I have been able to say that his Answer is satisfactory? Can he give an assurance that the same happy progress will be made this year?

Mr. Maclay

At the risk of the hon. Gentleman again saying that it is satisfactory, he would like to know that in 1960 it is proposed to plant 500 acres more than the 11,500 proposed in the White Paper.
