§ 28. Mr. Kershawasked the Secretary of State for War what steps he has taken during 1960 to arrange for the formation of a British Foreign Legion.
§ Mr. ProfumoNone, Sir.
§ Mr. KershawWhy not?
§ Mr. ProfumoFor many reasons, but perhaps among the foremost is the fact that the British soldier, as I am sure my hon. Friend will agree, has always had a considerable reputation as an ambassador in overseas theatres in which he serves, and I do not think that that rôle could be fulfilled by a foreign legion.
