§ 27. Mr. Kershawasked the Secretary of State for War how many battalions there are composed of Fijians.
§ Mr. ProfumoThe Fiji Military Forces comprise a company of Regular infantry and a volunteer infantry battalion with Regular headquarters.
§ Mr. KershawIs my right hon. Friend taking any steps to increase the number of Fijians in the Forces? Is he aware of their very fine record in the last war and since, and will he take what steps he can to increase their numbers?
§ Mr. ProfumoI am well aware of their record in the last war and the great part 1255 which they played in Malaya. There is nothing to stop them enlisting in the British Army, but experience has shown that it is probably better if they serve in their own formations.
