HC Deb 06 May 1959 vol 605 c367
1. Colonel Beamish

asked the Secretary of State for War when the committee under the chairmanship of General Sir Richard Goodbody, which is examining possible solutions to the present shortage of entrants to the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, will report.

The Secretary of State for War (Mr. Christopher Soames)

I expect to have an interim report in July and the final report in the autumn.

Colonel Beamish

In view of the urgency and importance of this question, can my right hon. Friend say what the present position is at Sandhurst in regard to the shortage of entrants, and, in particular, whether he hopes to make the report available to hon. Members?

Mr. Soames

We are short of entrants to Sandhurst and we hope that this report will throw some new light on the problem. As to making the report available, I do not expect that it will be published, but I do expect the recommendations to be of such importance that I will welcome an opportunity to make a statement.
