§ 47. Mr. Jannerasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the breakdown of the Conference of Plenipotentiaries on Reduction of Statelessness, he will instruct the United Kingdom delegates to the General Assembly of the United Nations to press for an early resumption of the Conference.
§ Mr. R. AllanWe have not yet completed a full study of the proceedings of the Conference. When we have done so, we shall certainly seek its resumption if, as seems probable, there is a chance of agreement being reached.
§ Mr. JannerOne appreciates the attitude adopted by the Government and those who served the Government at that Conference, and the manner in which they conducted the proceedings, and I should like to thank them for that. At the same time, does not the hon. Gentleman realise that it is important that we should proceed on similar lines with a view to getting cleared up the one small point that was still left at issue, so that some satisfactory results might be obtained from a Conference of this description in the future?
§ Mr. AllanIf it looked as though we could clear up that one small point we would press for the resumption of the Conference.
