§ 15. Mr. Sorensenasked the Minister of Education approximately how many schoolchildren under the Essex Education Authority went on school tours to the Continent in 1958; and how many joined school holiday parties for a week or more in the British Isles.
§ Mr. Geoffrey LloydThis information is not available, since the schools make their own arrangements.
§ Mr. SorensenIn order to get this information, is it possible for the Minister to inquire of the Essex Education Authority, so that we may compare what takes place in Essex with what takes place in other counties? I am sure that he will agree that it is highly desirable that as many of these tours as possible should take place.
§ Mr. LloydI think that it is, and my information is that it is taking place in the county. Perhaps the hon. Gentleman would reflect on whether we should put the county to the point of writing to all the schools, because I do not think that the staff in the county office has the information. However, perhaps I can discuss the matter with the hon. Gentleman.
§ Mr. W. YatesWhile my right hon. Friend is dealing with the question of Catholic schools and buildings, will he also pay attention to the letters I have written to him—
§ Mr. SpeakerOrder. This Question deals with school tours to the Continent.
§ Mr. M. StewartWould the Minister consider advising local education authorities not to send children on tour to Southern Rhodesia, because the Government will not be able to protect them?
