HC Deb 05 March 1959 vol 601 c605
17. Mr. Mulley

asked the Minister of Education if he will pay the premiums of an approved insurance policy against accidents incurred during their studies on behalf of holders of State scholarships and recommend local education authorities to do so also in respect of holders of their awards.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

No, Sir.

Mr. Mulley

Is the Minister aware that a great number of hardships have been caused to students as a result of accidents in laboratories during their studies? In view of the very small cost of such a scheme, will he consider it if I submit further proposals to him?

Mr. Lloyd

I will consider it, but I am sure that the hon. Gentleman will realise that, in the awards, there is a sum in the calculations which is meant to deal with various matters which are not precisely calculated, and this should be considered in that kind of category.
