HC Deb 23 July 1959 vol 609 cc1513-4
58. Mr. Malcolm MacPherson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what arrangements exist for the seconding of teachers from the United Kingdom for service in primary and secondary schools in Tanganyika.

Mr. J. Amery

Teachers appointed to Tanganyika can preserve their superannuation rights in this country, and it is possible for secondment to be agreed in individual cases by arrangement between the teacher and the employing authority in this country. This is dependent upon the authority being able to guarantee that a post will be available for the teacher on his return.

Mr. MacPherson

Can the hon. Gentle- man say whether the existence of these arrangements is producing any large number of teachers going on secondment to Tanganyika? Will he also tell us whether this sort of thing is one of the topics which are now being discussed?

Mr. Amery

I am afraid that I should want notice of those questions.
