§ 38. Mr. G. M. Thomsonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what answer he has made to the proposals he has received from the Tanganyika African Union for constitutional changes involving elected majorities by the end of 1959 in both the Legislative and Executive Councils.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydNone, Sir. These proposals were submitted by the Tanganyika African National Union to the Post-Elections Committee and to the Tanganyika Government and are still being considered.
§ Mr. ThomsonIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that these proposals are backed by all the Elected Members of all races? Will he bear in mind that the racial composition of Tanganyika is very similar to that of Nyasaland, and that Tanganyika is setting an example in building up a really multi-racial family and that it deserves every possible encouragement as quickly as possible from the Government?
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydI hope the hon. Gentleman will not forget that I have also been responsible for Tanganyikan affairs during the last five years.
