HC Deb 23 July 1959 vol 609 c1488
2. Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the President of the Board of Trade what recent action has been taken to increase the output of the pottery industry, electrical porcelain products and sanitary fittings; and what are the prospects for increased exports.

Sir D. Eccles

The pottery industry has increased its efficiency in recent years. I am confident manufacturers will maintain their keen interest in exports and that there are good prospects in many old and new markets.

Mr. Ellis Smith

As the President of the Board of Trade has had great experience recently in advising and assisting in the formation of consortiums with a view to capturing more available world trade, does he not think that the time has arrived to give consideration to this industry in that way?

Sir D. Eccles

That is an interesting suggestion which I shall bear in mind.
