HC Deb 23 July 1959 vol 609 cc1503-4
44. Mr. Stonehouse

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is fully satisfied with the services of Mr. Campbell, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Prisons in Kenya; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Mr. Campbell has earned consistently good reports during his service with the Kenya Prisons Department. In so far as the hon. Member is referring to the notes Mr. Campbell prepared after returning from Hola on 4th March, I have no comment to make in advance of publication of the Command Paper, which will appear later today.

Mr. Stonehouse

Will the Secretary of State look very seriously at the coroner's report? He must be aware that the coroner made quite strong comments on the evasions and falsehoods in Mr. Campbell's report of the 4th March, and as this report was confirmed by the Governor's meeting on the same day, does not this bring the whole Kenya administration into disrepute?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I have nothing to add to my Answer.
