HC Deb 08 July 1959 vol 608 cc1359-60
56. Sir W. Anstruther-Gray

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he is now in a position to make a full statement regarding the joint operation of Turnhouse Aerodrome by his Department and the Air Ministry; and whether this will ensure that the aerodrome will be open for use, if required, for 24 hours a day.

Mr. Watkinson

I hope that the Secretary of State for Air and I will soon be able to reach conclusions about the long term control of Turnhouse Airport which we are discussing. Meantime, as my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Air explained on 18th March, improved arrangements have been made to accept aircraft whose arrival has been delayed after normal hours. There is no present requirement for a 24-hour service at Turnhouse.
