HC Deb 29 January 1959 vol 598 c1246
35. Mr. Oram

asked the President of the Board of Trade what conclusions he has reached as a result of the meeting with the Timber Trade Federation about the Report of the Monopolies Commission on Imported Timber; and if he will make a statement.

Sir D. Eccles

I regret the delay in making the statement, but I hope I shall be able to do so shortly.

Mr. Oram

Does not the right hon. Gentleman recall that a few months ago he said that it was merely the change of Parliamentary Secretaries that was holding up events? Has not there been time for him to speed up things since then, or is it a question of his unwillingness to take the necessary action against this monopoly which has already gone back on its undertaking?

Sir D. Eccles

There is no unwillingness on my part, but there are a large number of difficult legal points.
