HC Deb 26 January 1959 vol 598 cc672-3
6. Miss Vickers

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what decision he has reached in regard to the representation of allotment associations on local authority allotment committees; and what advice he has received concerning this matter from the National Allotments and Gardens Society.

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Mr. John Hare)

I am unable at present to add to the reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Stretford (Mr. Storey) on this subject on 10th November last.

Miss Vickers

Can my right hon. Friend get a reply in the near future, as the matter is very important to the allotment associations? Will he press the National Allotments and Gardens Society to get full representation?

Mr. Hare

I quite see my hon. Friend's point, but we have to allow the local authority associations to say what they wish to say. I hope they will not delay too long before coming forward, if they want to make representations.

Mr. T. Williams

Can we be satisfied that the right hon. Gentleman is using his full weight, knowing exactly what the National Allotments and Gardens Society feel about this retrograde step?

Mr. Hare

I think the right hon. Gentleman would agree that I would be wrong to make a statement until I had heard what the local authority associations have to say. I am waiting to hear from them.
