HC Deb 22 January 1959 vol 598 cc404-5
45. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Prime Minister what consultation he has had with the heads of other Commonwealth Governments and Colonial Administrations about the recognition and celebration throughout the Commonwealth and Empire of the new Commonwealth Day.

The Prime Minister (Mr. Harold Macmillan)

My hon. Friend will recognise that throughout the Commonwealth the question how to observe Commonwealth Day is a matter for local decision. Her Majesty's Government are now considering what further measures can be taken to spread a greater knowledge of the Commonwealth and what it stands for in this country and how best to consult with other Commonwealth Governments and Colonial Administrations on this general question.
