§ 18. Mr. Rankinasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware of the educational crisis which has developed in Glasgow; and if he will meet in conference with the Education Committee of the City Corporation and the Educational Institute of Scotland to discuss the situation with a view to finding remedies.
§ Mr. N. MacphersonMy right hon. Friend is aware of the special problems particularly engaging the attention of the Glasgow education authority, and at the authority's request I met representatives of the authority on 19th January. My right hon. Friend has received no request from the authority since then for a meeting along the lines suggested by the hon. Member.
§ Mr. RankinIs the Minister aware of the very serious warning uttered by the Convenor of the Education Committee of Glasgow last Thursday? If such a conference is requested by Glasgow City Education Committee, may we take it from the tone of his reply that he or his right hon. Friend will be prepared to take part in such a conference with the bodies named in the Question?
§ Mr. MacphersonYes, Sir. If the authority requests another conference, the request will certainly be given most serious consideration.
