§ 2. Mr. McLarenasked the Minister of Works if he will put the Banqueting House, Whitehall, to a use better suited to its royal history and architectural splendour.
§ Lord John HopeI am naturally interested in any suggestions concerning the future of the Banqueting House, and I propose to consult my colleagues about this.
§ Mr. McLarenIs my right hon. Friend aware of the views expressed by Professor Sir Anthony Blunt and by the Georgian Group, and will he take those views into account?
§ Lord John HopeI will take all relevant views into account, including, of course, the views of this House, which I think are agreed as near as makes no difference.
§ Mr. ParkerAre there not many better places to which the museum can be transferred?
§ Lord John Hope"Better" is a relative word, but one would hope that a suitable alternative place could be found. The House will realise that any move in this desired direction must take into account the museum and its long history.
