HC Deb 28 April 1959 vol 604 cc1104-5
48. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Prime Minister what is his purpose, during his visit to Scotland, in making an official visit to East Kilbride.

The Prime Minister

I have always taken an interest in housing questions, and I shall be glad of the opportunity to see for myself how this new town is developing.

Mr. Hughes

Is the Prime Minister aware that it was a Labour Government which started this new town and all the enterprises associated with it? Does he not think that we could do with another new town something like that?

The Prime Minister

I do not know whether the hon. Gentleman objects to my going to the new town. I am sure that I shall be received with the courtesy which is always shown by Scotsmen to people of English, Scottish and, sometimes, even of Welsh descent.
